The MS English Program is designed with the view to impart and promote the education of English Literature, Language and Linguistics. Apart from the knowledge of fundamental concepts and theories, it aims to enable the students not only in technical skills of language learning and teaching but also to develop concepts, values of research in the nature and functioning of language, and to mature their creative imaginations and skills to be able to communicate and apply the knowledge of art and literature in practical situations. Pakistani Literature in English, American Literature, the study of Nobel Laureates and research paper are some of the distinctive features of the course. The students have to submit a thesis/ research paper in the final semester as a requisite of the degree completion.

  • Once submitted, no changes/modifications are acceptable in the admission form.
  • A candidate gets to lose his/her right for admission, if he/she provides false information in the admission form. Moreover, if the documents attached were found fake they would be consider guilty of gross misconduct.
  • The applicant having 3rd division or having obtained marks less than 45% are not eligible to apply.
  • 5% seats in each MPhil English Literature cohort have been reserved for war wounded personnel of Armed/Civil Forces and 10% seats for FATA / Baluchistan subject to the advertised conditions.

Eligibilty

The minimum requirement for admission in MPhil English Literature/Linguistics program is:

  • 16 years of education in relevant discipline from HEC recognized university with the following score:
    1. Semester System: 2.50/4.00 CGPA or Grade “B”
    2. Annual System: 50% marks (45 % for English)
    3. Gat General with a minimum cumulative score as determined by HEC
    4. Passing of entrance test/Interview conducted by the university

Prescribed admission forms are available online to be filled and submitted from the university website. Manual is provided that guides students through each of the steps for completion of online application forms.
After completion of forms, applicants are required to print and send hard copies of all documents to the Admissions Office via post / courier. A candidate, who is eligible for admission, must submit attested copies of the following documents, along with the application form and the Fee Deposit slip:

  • BS/MA or equivalent foreign qualification certificate
  • SSC or equivalent foreign qualification certificate
  • HSSC or an equivalent foreign qualification certificate
  • Equivalence certificate from HEC, Islamabad (in case of foreign qualification)
  • Migration Certificate (if applicable)
  • National Identity Card/Form B of the candidate
  • National Identity Card of Father/Guardian
  • Recent colored photograph of the applicant

Criteria

The students are first screened through a written test based on their knowledge of English literature and language skills. The test consists of subjective type of questions and is designed to test their skill and command in the major area.

The scores based on their previous academic record and entrance test result all go on to make the final merit list.
